Hot News or Hype?

CONSUMER ALERT
Fat melting injections have been making promises and making headlines. In October 2007, the Physicians Coalition for Injectable Safety issues a consumer warning about these unproven treatments.

UNCOVERING THE HYPE
Lipodissolve and fat melting injections are a hot topic, but there is little in the way of medical research to support the claims of these procedures. Media and consumers have a lot to say, however. If you want real life stories, and not hype, look to these resources:

RealSelf.com, Lipodissolve reviews by RealSelf users

• Los Angeles Times, "Weighing in on Lipolysis" by Marnell Jameson, December 3, 2007

• Allure, "Fat Chance" by Joan Kron, November, 2007

New York Times, "Feel Pudgy? There's a Shot for That", by Natasha Singer, September 20, 2007

USA Today, "Lipodissolve Proves Popular Despite Lack of FDA Nod", by RIta Rubin, September 10, 2007

Washington Post, "Can Shots Safely Melt Away Fat?", by Sandra G. Boodman, June 26, 2007

At present, the first sanctioned study to evaluate fat dissolving injections is underway; the outcome of this small initial study is not expected until 2009. Injectablesafety.org keeps you up to date on the safety and the FDA approval status of all cosmetic injectables in our Injectables at a Glance Feature.

INJECTION VACATION
It’s hot news: travel overseas coupled with cosmetic procedures. No matter where you travel, if you’re considering cosmetic injections remember Doctor. Brand. Safety.

• The doctor you choose must be a licensed medical doctor in the country you where you will be treated, and have internationally recognized specialization in plastic surgery, facial plastic surgery, ophthalmic plastic surgery or dermatology.

• Any substance injected into you should be a labeled, branded injectable approved for use in the country you are visiting, and also is approved for use in your home country.

• Your safety must come first. Don’t accept treatment: In a non-medical setting (like a hotel or resort) Under pressure or simply because it is offered at a good price If you or the injector are intoxicated Unless you feel 100% confident in the Doctor, the Brand and your Safety.

Dr. Roger Dailey explains the risky results from injection vacations. Click here or on the image above to view this video clip.
